Purpose:
The Division of Advancement’s mission is to inspire and cultivate meaningful engagement and philanthropic support to advance York University’s excellence in education, research and community service.

In support of this mission and under the direction of the Manager, Alumni Communications & Events, the Planner, Alumni Events is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of a portfolio of annual and ad hoc alumni events. This position engages the growing communities of alumni, donors, students and staff to foster and facilitate engagement and support, financially and otherwise, for the University.
 
Education:
An undergraduate degree in Theatre, Business, Communications, Humanities, Marketing, Social Sciences or Visual Art. Equivalent education and experience includes college diploma in Event Management, Public Relations or Hospitality plus 1 year practical related experience or four (4) years recent, practical related experience in addition to the minimum years of work experience required.
 
Experience:
Two (2) years’ experience in the planning, coordination and implementation of events are essential. Demonstrated competencies of event management. Experience in a university an asset. Knowledge of current and future trends related to events, university policies and protocols and of fundraising professional standards and ethics.
 
Skills:
Demonstrated skills including: Strong oral and written communication skills. Excellent organization and project management abilities to coordinate, plan and schedule multiple complex projects and budgets at the same time. Superior attention to details. Budgeting skills. Initiative and creativity. Strong event coordination skills. Tact, discretion and courtesy essential, even in times of challenging and conflicting demands. Working effectively under pressure of high volume and meeting daily deadlines. Exercising good judgment. Balancing the competing demands of day-to-day work and frequent interruptions.

Demonstrated computer skills including: Intermediate Word processing (MS Word). Intermediate Spreadsheets (MS Excel). Intermediate Presentation software (MS PowerPoint). Basic / Introductory Databases (MS Access). Knowledge of event-management software.
