Purpose:
This position contributes to the success of the Chemistry and Environmental Science Co-op Program by providing superior service to students and employers and plays a key role in generating career development opportunities for York students through the targeted development and fostering of relationships with employer partners. This is achieved through the effective and proactive identification, promotion and provision of services that connect students’ academic and career development needs with employers’ human resources requirements to create mutually valuable co-op opportunities. The Co-op Coordinator will develop, coordinate, deliver and promote ongoing job search support services and one-on-one advising to co-op students including resume critiques and interview practice sessions, and the delivery of information sessions and customized job search support workshops to assist with finding meaningful co-op positions. The Co-op Coordinator conducts work term monitoring (i.e. telephone, email and site visits as necessary) to ensure that student co-op experiences are productive and rewarding, and to enhance relationships with employer partners. This position will also coordinate the day-to-day administration of the Chemistry and Environmental Science Co-op Program including application and enrollment processing, maintaining up-to-date and accurate student information, responding to student and employer inquiries, and administering the collection of evaluations and work term reports.
 
Education:
College diploma in a related field (e.g. business administration, human resources) plus specialized training in job search strategies, career development and experiential education which shows an aptitude towards superior interpersonal skills, student advising and employer relationship development.
 
Experience:
A minimum of 3 years related experience working with students in a post-secondary co-operative education or internship program and/or student recruiting (e.g. campus recruiting or management trainee program recruitment) and employer relationship development is required. Experience working with Chemistry and Environmental Science focused programs (i.e. students, employers and faculty) is a definite asset.

Knowledge of the following: labour market trends, employability skills, career development techniques and strategies: Demonstrated skill/ability in the following areas: guiding clients in job search strategies; establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships; workshop design, development, and evaluation using a client-centred approach; proven success in identifying, developing and maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external clients including operating with a service focus; superior public speaking and presentation skills; strong oral and written communication skills; outstanding attention to accuracy and detail; highly developed interpersonal and influencing skills; working cooperatively as a member of a team to meet unit goals and objectives; excellent organizational skills including ability to multi-task; good judgment and decision making skills, strong initiative; punctual and reliable; proficiency (intermediate skills level) with MS Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint), electronic mail and computerized scheduling (Lotus Notes preferred), Student Information System (SIS) and other databases. Willingness to travel via transit to employer locations primarily in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
