Purpose:
The Alumni Programs and Chapters Planner is responsible for a range of activities to engage and involve York alumni in meaningful ways. Under the direction of the Manager, Alumni Engagement, the incumbent is responsible for identifying, cultivating and facilitating alumni volunteer efforts in support of York University’s goals and objectives through the Chapter program. The Alumni Programs and Chapters Planner also leads the development of alumni programming within the Division of Advancement to build mutually beneficial relationships between York University and its alumni. Alumni chapters are volunteer groups funded by the Division of Advancement, and are accountable to and governed by the York University Alumni Association (YUAA). All alumni chapters operate under the purview of the YUAA and are a key element of the Division of Advancement’s alumni engagement strategy. The Alumni Programs and Chapters Planner works closely with alumni volunteers to ensure compliance with YUAA rules and regulations and to facilitate alumni programming both locally, nationally and internationally.
 
Education:
University degree in business, marketing, humanities, social sciences or a related field.
 
Experience:
1-2 years related experience with an emphasis in public relations, volunteer coordination and event and program planning and budgeting. Experience in a University environment an asset. Experience in volunteer communications and familiarity with Alumni Relations an asset.
 
Skills:
DEMONSTRATED SKILLS INCLUDING: Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to coordinate, plan and schedule multiple projects and budgets at the same time. Budgeting skills, initiative and creativity. Tact, courtesy and discretion essential Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment and possesses an eye for detail. DEMONSTRATED COMPUTER SKILLS INCLUDING: Intermediate Word processing (MS Word); Intermediate Spreadsheets (MS Excel); familiarity with Lotus Notes and BSR Advance an asset.
