The Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies (Faculty of LA&PS) is one of the largest Faculties in Canada. The Faculty occupies approximately 53,000 net assignable square meters of space that spans across twelve buildings, and is comprised of approximately 650 full-time faculty, 1,500 contract faculty and 300 full-time non-academic staff. Under the general direction of the Associate Director, Administration, the HR Business Partner acts as a consultant and advisor on a wide range of HR/operational responsibilities. The HR Business Partner is responsible for providing advice, leadership, guidance and consultation to academic and administrative departments/schools with respect to recruitment, job evaluation, employee relations, training/orientation/onboarding, health and safety and other employee matters for YUSA and YUSA2 staff. The incumbent addresses issues of violence; harassment and accommodation of full and limited term staff, faculty and students, and participates in a number of HR-related projects ongoing within the Faculty.
 
Education:
University degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in human resources; CHRP required; Health and Safety Certification would be an asset.
 
Experience:
3 to 4 years’ related experience as an HR generalist in a unionized environment is required, working with collective agreements and providing advice on application, along with experience in the areas of recruitment, employee relations, training, health and safety, orientation and onboarding of non-academic staff.

Excellent oral and written communication skills; Effective interpersonal skills, including flexibility, discretion, and tact; Ability to work independently and collegially within a diverse workplace; Effective leadership and management skills; Proven planning, coordination and organizational skills; Ability to respond and adapt in a changing, high pressure environment while meeting deadlines; Superior ability to assess problem situations, recognize issues and use good judgment to devise creative solutions that meet required standards; Knowledge of HR theory and related practices (e.g., job design and evaluation, recruitment and selection, labour and industrial relations, training and development, compensation and benefits) and knowledge of healthy and safe work practices. Understanding of employment contract terminology and definition, Ontario Labour and related legislation, ESA, Labour Relations Act, OH&S Act, AODA, Human Rights Code. Knowledge of OHSA, WHMIS and practices related to workplace inspections, emergency preparedness, due diligence and duties of supervisors; Understanding relevant articles in collective agreements (YUSA, YUSA2); Ability to assist with the implementation of measures to protect against loss, theft and liability; and proficient computing skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, database software).
