Purpose:
Reporting to Associate Director, Administration and working with the Associate Dean, Research, the Faculty Research Administrator has two major roles, to support LA&PS faculty members in the post-award administration of grants and monitoring of research grants and contracts awarded by granting agencies and York University including checking for compliance with York and granting agencies’ policies and guidelines. To support the Associate Dean Research in the planning and management of financial resources associated with the research area of the Dean’s Office including the everyday research operating budget and the financial resources specifically earmarked for support of research initiatives undertaken by LA&PS faculty, or being pursued at the university at large.
 
Education:
Post secondary degree or diploma from University or College in Commerce, Accounting or Business Administration. Pursuing professional accounting designation (enrolled in 3rd level CGA/CMA or equivalent).
 
Experience:
3 to 5 years progressive accounting experience with college diploma or 1-2 years work experience plus a University degree. Work experience includes financial monitoring and analysis, or equivalent in a Finance department, preferably in a University environment.
 
Skills:
Sound knowledge of accounting principles, solid analytical/critical thinking skills and the ability to identify issues and seek creative solutions. Ability to work accurately, efficiently and effectively both independently and as a part of a team. Demonstrated skill and ability in using MS Excel at advanced level and MS Word at intermediate level in a Window environment; working knowledge and ability to use financial applications/databases (eReports) and Academic Resources Management System (ARMS); email software (Lotus Notes) and ability to perform searches on internet. Ability to read and interpret financial statements. Working knowledge in the interpretation of terms and conditions of grants/contracts. Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage a high volume of work, priorities and competing time demands. Strong oral and written communications skills, client service orientation. Ability to use tact, diplomacy and discretion is essential as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality. Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent attention to details is essential; punctuality and reliability.
