Purpose:
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A TEMPORARY CONTRACT. The Budget Analyst will assist and provide support to the Senior Financial Analyst through day-to-day monitoring of various cost centres for the Registrar’s Office and Student Financial Services. The Budget Analyst will examine, analyze, and reconcile detailed financial documents, forms and spreadsheets and monitor cost centres through e-Reports and other database systems. The Budget Analyst will communicate with community members to clarify or obtain information related to the cost centres. Year-end reconciliation for the department and for accounts related to the University’s financial aid, scholarship, award and bursary operating cost centres and other costs centres as appropriate. The Budget Analyst will assist with the implementation of planning and control processes, budgeting and forecasting, creating regular and ad-hoc reports, assisting in the streamlining of processes and ensuring proper documentation. The Budget Analyst will participate in meetings to clarify information on processes and cost centres Information related to student files and funding sources is confidential. The Budget Analyst works under the direction of the Senior Financial Analyst and within established York University Financial procedures and guidelines.
 
Education:
Community College; University Degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. A solid understanding of accounting and financial concepts and principles is required.
 
Experience:
Minimum of two – three years related experience in a large complex organizational environment (e.g. dealing with the public).
 
Skills:
Advanced working knowledge of:
A variety of application software (e.g. MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access);web searching/navigation tools to research information via the Internet; electronic mail; large computerized records systems (e.g., PeopleSoft e-Reports).
Excellent:
Attention to detail and accuracy; oral communication and presentation skills to convey informational policies/procedures and information, interpersonal skills to deal courteously and effectively with people using tact and diplomacy, excellent organizational skills to handle multiple priorities and deadlines in a high volume service area, written skills to produce reports and documentation and a willingness to learn new technology.
Proven ability:
To elicit and provide accurate information pertaining to regulatory information and the ability to answer detailed and complex enquiries in a quick, efficient, clear and concise manner, to exercise good judgement and initiative, to work under pressure and high volume workload, to complete work independently and in a team setting.
