Purpose:
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A LIMITED TERM CONTRACT.Reporting to the Senior Manager, Recruitment & Tenant Relations, the Social Media and Marketing Assistant will assist Housing Services in the development and execution of new marketing initiatives to improve the recruitment and retention of students in our on-campus housing. This position will market the residence experience to prospective and current students in support of the new Housing Strategy and departmental objectives to increase occupancy rates and improve student engagement. The Social Media and Marketing Assistant, through the use of current social and digital media technologies and trends, will enhance and maintain York’s student housing presence online.
 
Education:
Completion of Community College Diploma in Business Administration, Communications, Marketing or Social Media Marketing or equivalent such as completion of high school plus 1-2 years of advanced training or practical experience in the use of current marketing and digital media technologies in addition to the minimum years of experience required.
 
Experience:
1-2 years of recent related experience in marketing, communications plus experience producing content across a range of social and digital media for marketing purposes including experience working with a database.
 
Skills:
Demonstrated skills/abilities in the following areas: Proficiency working with specialized digital media software such as Adobe Premium Pro, Photoshop for producing/editing videos, and Contribute and WordPress for editing design and content of the website; hands-on experience with operating a DSLR camera and configuring LCD/LED screens for video display. Some analytical skills are required for extracting and assessing data from online social media programs (e.g. Facebook, Youtube, Google); and experience working with a database (e.g. StarRez). Excellent written and verbal communication skills in dealing with individual inquiries and group settings including online discussions; strong attention to details; creative thinking and marketing skills; ability to meet deadlines; exercise good judgment; demonstrated initiative.
