Purpose:
The Senior Enterprise Data Warehouse Analyst - Business
Intelligence (the incumbent) supports the planning, policy
formulation and decision-making activities at York University by
designing and developing the Business Intelligence (BI) layer of the
Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). The purpose of the EDW is to
provide a comprehensive, accessible and authoritative store of
information assets for senior level decision-making. The incumbent
will develop information assets to assist in government reporting,
government lobbying, union negotiations, strategic initiatives,
organizational performance, workload analysis, organizational
changes, and comparative data from other universities. The data are
referenced both at the detailed individual level and the aggregated
organizational level and all intermediary levels. The incumbent
performs all work required to make the informational assets
accessible and informative to the senior management of the
University. This includes identifying and analyzing business
requirements, translating requirements to technical specifications,
designing and developing solutions using appropriate development
tools, ensuring that the systems are available and functioning
efficiently, troubleshooting production problems, working closely with
senior analysts of source systems, facilitating consensus between
various system stewards, developing custom modules and
systems, and modifying and upgrading software. The incumbent is
responsible for the final resolution of all technical problems related
to the BI layer of the EDW.
The incumbent serves as a university expert on all aspects of the BI
layer of the EDW, including development of security architecture to
protect the highly confidential and strategic nature of the data. In
addition, the incumbent will research, recommend and participate in
developing strategic direction and initiatives for BI applications within
the university, communicate with client groups and coordinate
technical design sessions to ensure that the university's business
needs are met. |

Education:
University degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Institutional
Research or related field. |
|
Experience:
7-10 years of progressive experience in the IT field including system
design and development working specifically with Oracle databases
and PL/SQL.
Experience with the system development lifecycle, promotion from
development to production, data conversion, metadata repositories,
data profiling, data quality analysis, thorough understanding of
relational database technology and star schema design.
Preferred experience in higher education sector, with data
warehouse systems and business intelligence applications.
Experience with OBIEE+ is highly desirable. Preferred experience
with Institutional Research and Performance Management.
Experience working in a supervisory capacity, preferably in a
unionized environment. |

Skills:
Formal training in and/or advanced knowledge of PL/SQL and Oracle
environment and OBIEE+.
Advanced knowledge of desktop applications, entity relationship
diagrams and experience with ERwin.
Working knowledge of unix and job scheduling.
Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
Exceptional analytical, conceptual and problem-solving abilities.
Superior communication, negotiation, presentation and facilitation
skills in order to manage client relationships and their competing
interests, priorities and perspectives.
Effective motivational and diplomatic skills appropriate to large and
complex organizations.
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills to assist clients
in defining business needs, resolving problems, raising data quality
concerns, promoting system adoption across the organization.
Ability to deal with technology vendors in negotiation and acquisition
of software, equipment and services.
Knowledge and experience with standard project methodologies,
tools and techniques.
Ability to work under and deliver to deadline constraints across
multiple demands.
Proven ability to exercise good judgment and maintain a high level of
confidentiality because of the academic, social, financial or
environmental considerations associated with the solutions being
addressed by the data warehouse. |
