Purpose:
Reporting to the Director of the Centre for Human Rights, the
incumbent's primary responsibility is to assist in the design,
development and delivery of advanced education and outreach
programs to the York community that are in keeping with the Centre's
mandate, mission, goals and objectives. The incumbent is also
responsible for analyzing human rights trends in the community and for
developing and implementing surveys and evaluations of the Centre's
educational initiatives. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for
developing and delivering communication materials, education events
and community related education initiatives. |

Knowledge:
The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge about the
design and delivery of educational programming in human rights
and equity. They will have extensive knowledge about organizational
development and the principles of change management along with
adult learning principles. The successful candidate will have a
proven track record of promotion of Human Rights. Knowledge
requirements include policy development, case research, needs
assessment, survey development and analysis, as well as
applicable public policy. Knowledge of program evaluation and
application required. Sound knowledge of word processing and
related software applications in a Windows environment. Fluency in
French is an asset. |

Education:
Recognized undergraduate degree (post graduate degree preferred) or
equivalent experience and training. Teaching certificate or equivalent
demonstrating significant knowledge in how adults learn. Formal
dispute resolution training and/or a certificate in dispute resolution or
related discipline a strong asset. Knowledge of and training in human
rights legislation and related fields of administrative law an asset.
French a definite asset. |

Experience:
Proven track record in understanding and explaining issues from
divergent and often contentious perspectives. Progressive
experience directly related to the fields of teaching/training including
designing, developing and delivering educational workshops,
seminars etc to diverse audiences (preferably) in human rights, for 6
years or more. Experience in conducting needs assessments and
evaluation. Demonstrated experience in conducting program
evaluation. Demonstrated experience in research skills.
Demonstrated experience of developing and using survey
instruments. Demonstrated experience in the use and application of
alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. Experience in and
knowledge about human rights legislation and its applications along
with related public policy. Knowledge of and experience with the
rules of natural justice and due process. Demonstrated awareness,
understanding and lived experiences of diversity, marginalization
and imbalance of power. Experience working independently as well
as in a team environment. |

The successful candidate must be an excellent communicator (both
written and oral) and public speaker who combines extensive
knowledge of fair process and human rights, empathy, fairness,
process and dispute resolution with a flair for promotion and
education. Sound analytic skills and ability to conduct program
evaluation. Excellent problem-solving, planning, research, and
interpretive skills. Excellent decision making, strategic thinking,
organizational knowledge and networking skills. Ability to work
independently as well as in a team environment. Superior
organizational and leadership skills to achieve goals and objectives
in a fast paced, changing, high volume and high pressure work
environment. Ability to deal with individuals at all levels in the
university from various cultures and a wide variety of backgrounds;
superior interpersonal skills and discretion. Outstanding
communication and presentation skills. Excellent public speaker.
Strong facilitation skills. Strong skills in the principles and
application of adult learning principles. Ability to organize and
communicate information effectively to a variety of groups of people..
Proven public relations skills. Innovative in developing options that
are responsive to differing needs. Ability to exercise sound
judgment/integrity/discretion. Ability to plan, coordinate and execute
several large outreach events and functions. Ability to interpret and
apply policy and legislation. Sensitivity to key systemic issues and
challenges facing diverse communities in Ontario. Demonstrated
commitment to client service and quality principles in service
delivery. Demonstrated understanding of and experience with issues
affecting disenfranchised groups. Ability to react quickly to changing
situations, manage multiple priorities, meet tight timelines and
prioritize issues, carrying a substantial workload. Excellent
administrative and time management skills. Good cataloguing skills
with which to maintain the Resource Centre. Sensitivity (preferably
lived experience) of diversity issues. Demonstrated computing skills,
including word processing(Word), database management(ACCESS)
and computerized spreadsheets(Excel). |
