Purpose:
PLEASE NOTE: This is a Limited Term Contract. Start Date: To Be Determined and End Date: A Year From Date of Hire. The Senior
Donor Relations Officer is responsible for the full scope of activities
related to donor relations including stewardship and recognition at
York University.
The Senior Donor Relations Officer manages donor stewardship
programs for donors to York University, and works directly with
donors and through Advancement staff, including senior
Advancement staff, to provide customized stewardship and
recognition to donors.
The purpose of this role is to nurture affinity through stewardship in
order to cultivate donors’ continued support of York University. |

Education:
A university education or equivalent combination of education and
fundraising experience, specifically in an educational setting. Certified
Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation required (or demonstration
that candidate qualified to complete the CFRE certification process
which must be complete within 3 years of their start date) |

Experience:
Minimum of five (5) years experience in professional fundraising, with a
focus on donor relations and with exposure to major gifts and annual
and planned giving. University fundraising experience an asset. |

Skills:
Proven track record of successful donor relations including
recognition and stewardship in a major gifts and annual giving
context.
Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) in a concise,
creative, and persuasive manner. Interpersonal skills in order to
interact with a variety of individuals at many different levels.
Excellent project management, prioritization and time-management
skills are required to manage multiple on-going projects
simultaneously and meet immovable deadlines. Ability to plan and
budget strategically.
Ability to organize, motivate, and work constructively with staff,
students, and volunteers. Ability to facilitate groups of people to work
towards a common goal.
Ability to provide project leadership to many individuals with diverse
interests and objectives. Skills in diplomacy and negotiation to
mediate between these individuals and to influence desired
outcomes. Ability to fulfill the needs of the assigned unit while
working as a team with other staff in the department.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Demonstrated ability to work with senior volunteers and senior
organizational leadership and to provide definitive donor relations
advice.
Strong analytical, research, interpretative and evaluation skills.
A strong commitment to customer service and ability to inspire
confidence from donors.
Strong ability to make highly effective formal and informal
presentations to diverse groups, large and small.
Ability to write and speak fluently in the English language, to write for
the university and fundraising environment and to develop strategic
advancement plans. Demonstrates the ability to draft, and coach
others to draft gift agreements, donor relations reports, endowment
reports and other written documentation as required.
Ability to work independently and as part of team.
Competency with word-processing and spreadsheet applications,
fundraising and prospect management databases and Internet
skills. |
