Purpose:

Communications & Public Affairs (C&PA) is responsible for advancing York University's brand and reputation by providing strategic advice and counsel to York senior management; disseminating news; developing and implementing internal and external institutional communications, strategic marketing, special events; and developing strong relationships with key stakeholders. C&PA includes the following units: Media Relations, Strategic Communications, Marketing & Creative Services and Strategic Initiatives & Administration. Reporting to the Director, Strategic Communications (DSC), the primary role of the Internal Communications Advisor is to lead the development and execution of institutional employee communications strategies, supporting organizational employee communication strategies and plans and assisting in the development and implementation of integrated strategic institutional communications plans.
 
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required in journalism, new media, communications, English, marketing or related field.
 
Experience:
Minimum seven to nine (7-9) years of experience working in progressive responsibility in internal communications, corporate communications, or public relations or related disciplines. Experience around strategic communications planning and implementation; plus demonstrated experience in producing a variety of communication vehicles aimed at various internal and external audiences.
 
Skills:
A proven track record and extensive related experience in a large complex organization. Experience in a unionized environment would be an asset. Possess a strategic mindset. Ability to work with and manage to ambiguity – dealing with issues, problems, or events that do not always have a process, system or solution in place. Superior written and verbal communication skills. demonstrated excellence in writing, editing and project management; Works effectively in a high-pressure environment to meet critical deadlines resolving complex communications issues; ability to multi-task and shift between diverse topics and manage numerous projects. Ability to work to deadlines while managing multiple tasks;, with constantly shifting priorities Strong influencing and interpersonal skills and a self-starter with high energy. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with constantly shifting priorities; A demonstrated grasp of evolving communication channels, including emerging new media.
