Purpose:
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A TEMPORARY CONTRACT. Reporting to the Director eServices, this position provides support to faculty, staff and students on matters related to copyright compliance and obtaining copyright permissions. This role assists in the administration and maintenance of copyright licences for use of third party materials in on-campus course materials, online, blended or experiential learning courses offered at York University. This role liaises with faculty, library staff, external rights holders and publishers to verify copyright information, obtain appropriate permissions, acts as a resource to the York community and aids in the administration of the eLearning Services unit.
 
Education:
University degree in a related field such as Communications, Journalism, Business Administration, or equivalent area of study.
 
Experience:
Minimum 2 years recent experience working in professional publishing office environment or library research, including one year of experience related to copyright administration or the equivalent of education and experience. Demonstrated knowledge of financial procedures; experience in course development an asset.
 
Skills:
REQUIRED SKILLS: Word processing with 45 wpm; accuracy essential. Demonstrated intermediate level proficiency in MS Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint; Course Management Systems (Moodle/Quickr); advanced online research skills. Up-to-date knowledge of copyright laws and compliance practices, both in the US and Canada, and in relation to educational organizations. Knowledge of learning management systems, web authoring software, and web- based collaboration tools. DEMONSTRATED SKILLS: Demonstrated recent experience to plan, evaluate and complete assignments within allocated time; ability to analyze and resolve issues; balance workload with changing priorities and meet deadlines with periodic interruptions. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing; excellent presentation skills, customer service skills to deal courteously and effectively with the public within a service-oriented environment and under competing time demands; the ability to listen, question and provide accurate general/procedural guidance on copyright compliance in an efficient, clear and concise manner. Ability to develop and maintain cooperative, productive working relationships with internal staff at all levels and external clients (e.g., publishers, authors, librarians, etc.) in a professional manner, exercising good judgment, tact and diplomacy). Sound knowledge of general office procedures with demonstrated ability to organize and maintain files, record details with excellent accuracy and thoroughness, including some accounting experience. Ability to create efficient and easily understood workflows/processes.
