Purpose:
Reporting to the Manager, Enterprise Academic Application Services, the Senior Application Developer has a lead role in the development, implementation and support of systems and web applications that enable core enterprise-wide academic processes owned by the VP Academic & Provost division, specifically but not limited to course management, course evaluation, and academic resource management systems. Serving as an expert technical resource and consultant to projects for these and related systems, the incumbent will take application development from concept to implementation. The incumbent is also expected to provide advanced level development and support for existing software code.

SKILLS MATRIX: OPERATING SYSTEMS: (ADVANCED LEVEL): Unix; (INTERMEDIATE LEVEL): Windows, Linux; Additional preferred: Mac OS. PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES: (ADVANCED): Python and PHP, Javascript and SQL; (INTERMEDIATE LEVEL): Pylons,YUI, Libraries. MARKUP LANGUAGES: (ADVANCED LEVEL): HTML, XML. DEVELOPMENT TOOLS: (ADVANCED LEVEL): Editor on Unix, Oracle or other networked SQL DB. UTILITIES: (ADVANCED LEVEL): TCP/IP programming; (INTERMEDIATE LEVEL): Unix Utilities, Ajax Programming Paradigms. DIRECTORY SERVICES: (ADVANCED LEVEL): LDAP. APPLICATIONS: (ADVANCED LEVEL): Firefox, Windows Internet Explorer, Safari and Chrome, Email, Web Server, e.g., Apache; (INTERMEDIATE LEVEL): Word Processing. DESIGN: (ADVANCED LEVEL): Software system design knowledge (participation in large projects a must), MVC.
 
Education:
University degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
 
Experience:
Minimum of 6 years recent and related experience as a specialist in the analysis, design, development and deployment of web-based applications/services, 3 years of which must include experience with large-scale enterprise systems design projects. Staff training and supervision experience is preferred.
