Purpose:

The purpose of the Counsellor/Counselling Supervisor is to help
students realize, develop and fulfill their personal potential in order to
maximally benefit from their university experience. This is achieved
through the provision of direct service in the form of individual and
group counselling and psychotherapy, supervision of interns as they
provide direct service, consultation to faculty and staff, and outreach
activities. In the role of supervisor the person is responsible for
overseeing the counsellor/interns interactions with clients', their
clinical and ethical decisions and their written reports concerning
clients. |

Education:
Masters or Ph.D. in Clinical and/or Counselling Psychology or related field or MSW (Master of Social Work). Registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario, the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. |

Experience:
Several years demonstrated clinical and counselling/psychotherapy
effectiveness in human service agency or counselling/psychotherapy
setting. |
|
Skills:
Well-developed knowledge of the principles of counselling and
psychotherapy and the processes that lead to change and personal
development. Expertise in the area of human relations and
communication. A proven ability to apply this expertise and
knowledge in the provision of a variety of counselling services
relevant to the broad range of mental health needs affecting
members of a large and diverse university community. Willingness
and ability to work effectively as a member of a clinical team.
Demonstrated skill in the training and supervision of
counsellors/psychotherapists-in-training. Organizational and
administrative skills with particular emphasis on the facilitation and
evaluation of interpersonal communication in groups. Knowledge of
community resources and the consultative skills to maximize their
use. |
