Purpose:

The purpose of the Intake Counsellor is to help students realize, develop and fulfill their personal potential in order to maximally benefit from their university experience. This is achieved through the provision of mental health assessment, triage, referral, crisis intervention as well as clinical supervision of interns, consultation to faculty and staff, and outreach activities.
 
Education:
Graduate degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology or MSW. Registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario or the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
 
Experience:
3-5 years related experience in clinical counseling and mental health intake assessment and triage.
 
Skills:
Well-developed knowledge of the principles of mental health assessment and counselling and the processes that lead to change and personal development. Expertise in the area of human relations and communication. A proven ability to apply this expertise and knowledge in the provision of a variety of counselling services relevant to the broad range of mental health needs affecting members of a large and diverse university community. Demonstrated skill in the training and supervision of counsellors-in-training. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written). Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to work as a member of a clinical team. Ability to exercise initiative and mature judgement, empathy and tact. Knowledge of community mental health resources and the consultative skills to maximize their use.
