Purpose:
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A TEMPORARY CONTRACT. Assists the Personnel & Financial Advisor/Administrative Officer in preparing/monitoring/maintaining office budgets as well as other accounting and administrative functions including but not limited to: reconciling monthly financial statements; preparing, processing and/or verifying financial forms (accounts payable, accounts receivables, service requests) and reimbursements; answering enquiries of office personnel regarding current financial policies/procedures; disseminating information, problem solving/trouble shooting for members of the management team as well as other York personnel regarding financial matters; etc.
 
Education:
College Diploma including accounting or bookkeeping courses.
 
Experience:
2 years' recent related experience (e.g. accounting, monitoring and reconciling budgets, balancing) including recent computerized budget experience required preferably within a large institutional setting (e.g. a university).
 
Skills:
Demonstrated skill/ability in the following areas: accounting skills, including accounting principles and practices; maintaining/monitoring financial records; working accurately with figures under pressure of high volume; good and accurate keyboarding & data entry skills; proficient computerized spreadsheet skills (MS Excel) at the advanced level; good mathematical skills; experience using on-line financial record system( e.g. E-Reports); ability to be flexible and perform as a team player; effective training skills so as to provide guidance & act as a resource person re: financial policies and procedures; adhering to deadlines; interpreting policies and/or procedures and their application to specific financially related circumstances (reasoning skills); accurate word processing skills (MS Word) at the intermediate level critical attention to detail; strong oral and written communication skills; proficiency in the use of computerized scheduling system software (e.g Lotus Notes); effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal effectively with a wide range of internal and external contacts; exercising tact and diplomacy; exercising good judgement, initiative and discretion; effective organizational skills including the ability to work independently and set priorities; maintaining a high degree of confidentiality; knowledge of the University’s finance procedures preferred.
