Hours: 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday. The incumbent will be required to attend events outside of these regular office hours. Most alumni activities are designed to attract broad attendee and volunteer participation, many meetings and events take place outside of normal work hours. The Alumni Officer, therefore, is called upon to work evenings and (to a lesser extent) weekends on a fairly regular basis as well as travel. This is an expectation of the position.
 
Purpose:

The Alumni Officer reports to the Director of Development, Faculty of LA&PS. The purpose of the position is to increase support and engagement for LA&PS from its constituencies. The position functions to engage and involve LA&PS alumni and its key stakeholders by facilitating positive relationships between the alumni of LA&PS and York University. The Alumni Officer is responsible for alumni outreach programs that have an impact locally, nationally, and internationally, to engage alumni and strengthen their connection to the Faculty and to York University. The incumbent is responsible for developing and maintaining positive relations with key alumni and stakeholders who are essential to the reputation, philanthropic investment, student recruitment and graduate employment placement rates.
 
Education:
A University degree in business, Marketing, Public Relations and/or Communications is required or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Equivalent education and experience includes college diploma in Marketing and/or Communications, or Public Relations plus 1 year practical related experience in addition to the minimum years of work experience required. A degree from York University would be considered an asset.
 
Experience:
2-3 years’ experience in event and volunteer organization is required. Previous supervisory experience is required. Alumni Relations expertise; Demonstrates a deep understanding and genuine interest in York Alumni in order to build and grow strong, committed, long-term relationships congruent with values and vision of the Faculty of LA&PS and the University. General knowledge of university / higher education advancement and alumni association processes and procedures. Knowledge of Revenue Canada regulations regarding Charitable Giving. Experience in an advancement role, including fundraising would be an asset; experience in an educational and non-profit setting and/or experience as a York University student leader would also be considered an asset.

Microsoft Office - including word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel) and presentations (Power Point); Microsoft Project would be an asset. Demonstrated knowledge of prospect management database and reporting systems. Email and calendaring systems. Internet Searching/Browsing.
