Position Title: Property Watch Official

Duration: Continuing Full-Time
Hours: On-going 12-Hour Night Shifts, currently 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. with a rotating schedule over a two (2) week period. NOTE: The listed hours are subject to change based upon operational needs; flexibility is required. While currently a 12-hour rotational shift model is being used, the department is reviewing some of its scheduling requirements. The applicant must be able to meet changes in scheduling as required.
 
Purpose:
To use an intervention capable security model to provide security services to the York University community. This includes, but is not limited to, conducting patrols, property watch and access control activities to assigned areas of the campus. As directed and in concert with other security services classifications, supports and assists Security Operations in responding to calls for service.
 
Education:
Community College diploma in a related field (Law and Security, Police Foundations, etc.) or equivalent training, experience and education in a security or related field. Must possess a valid Ontario Security Guard License and current valid First Aid and CPR Certificates.
 
Experience:
Two years experience in a security field preferred. Experience and training in the Ontario Use of Force Model including certification in the use of expandable batons and handcuffs is preferred.
 
Skills:
Essential: Shall possess the following: a sensitivity and commitment to the needs and concerns of a diverse community; excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to deal calmly and effectively with people including tact and diplomacy; the ability to work as a pro-active team member; basic word-processing; familiarity with email and demonstrated working knowledge of computers and software in general; good communication skills, including oral, written and listening; skills in basic crime prevention methods; the ability to work as a pro-active team member; the ability to take direction; the ability and willingness to undertake and participate in various departmental training initiatives and exercises; familiarization with federal, provincial, and municipal laws applicable in a university environment; Must successfully complete the York Security Services Advance Patrol Training certification program as required. A position designated as bilingual will require written and oral fluency in the French and English languages. Language proficiency tests will be administered.

Any offer of employment is conditional upon completion and submission of a satisfactory criminal background check. York University may use the results of the criminal background check to determine suitability of the candidate. Advancement within Security Services based upon competition.
