Purpose:

OPD is a revenue-generating operation with offerings positioned at the high end of the market and a demanding professional clientele. Reporting to the Assistant Dean & Executive Director, Osgoode Professional Development, the Associate Director, Academic Programs (ADAP), provides strategic planning, direction, and leadership in the development of new credit programs, including degree programs, post-graduate diplomas and joint degrees, and oversees the day-to-day operation of the Part-time LLM program, ensuring the highest standard of delivery of various services giving priority to providing a superior student experience. (Currently the part-time LLM program consists of 17 specialized LLM programs). S/he directs the activities of this office in support of the strategic mission of OPD and of Osgoode Hall law School, ensuring the integration of such services and support with the corresponding policy, decision-making and administrative bodies and offices within the Law School and the University. The ADAP is responsible for student and faculty recruitment and relations, and for compliance with all York University Faculty of Graduate Studies and Ontario Council of Graduate Studies requirements. The ADAP works together with the (Osgoode Faculty) Academic Director to ensure the academic integrity and high quality of all academic programs. The ADAP ensures that the method of delivering curriculum is effective, compliant with FGS and OCGS requirements, and brings OPD’s academic programs to as many students as is feasible and technically possible. Together with the Assistant Dean & Executive Director, this position assumes the overall responsibility for the academic integrity of the LLM programs.
 
Education:
LLB and LLM or another graduate degree is required.
 
Experience:
Minimum 5 years experience in practicing law or academic administration strongly preferred. People and administrative management experience in a unionized environment. Knowledge of University and OCGS rules, regulations and processes would be an asset. Familiarity with distance learning technologies would also be an asset.
 
Skills:
Thorough knowledge of policy setting bodies and procedures (University processes, Human Rights processes, other litigation procedures); academic policies and regulations. Strong administrative and management skills. Strong oral and written communication skills including public speaking. Skill in developing and implementing policies, programs and procedures. Excellent planning and analytic skills. In providing academic support to students with special needs (include persons with disabilities), knowledge of community resources and trends in how learning is impacted by these issues is necessary. Knowledge of human rights legislation/requirements; lawyer licensing requirements; employment law issues; law school application/education – law related issues (e.g. misrepresentation, reliance by readers of materials, issues of equity and fairness). In dealing with students, faculty and staff, strong interpersonal relations, counseling or advising, negotiation and conflict resolution skills are required. Critical thinking skills required for program development.t Strong management and organization skills are also required to multi-task and manage the day-to-day operation of the Part-time LLM Program. People and customer service oriented and provides high level of service to students/clients consistently. Excellent communications skills including public speaking and presentation skills. Ability to use judgment and make fair, sound decisions, based on existing policies and procedures is key. Skill in developing and implementing policies and strategies. Excellent planning and analytical skills.
