Purpose:
The Faculty Research Administrator is the first point of contact for Principal Investigators for financial administration, reporting and monitoring of grants and contracts awarded by York University and granting agencies. Ensures the efficient financial administration of grants and contracts and checks for compliance with York and granting agencies policies and guidelines. To provide Principal Investigators with administrative support and Procurement assistance. The Faculty Research Administrator works as part of a team as well as independently to support the Financial Administration of research grants and contracts. She/he is responsible for communicating research policies and procedures and updates to faculty Principal Investigators.
 
Education:
Community College diploma in a related discipline such as Commerce, Accounting or Business Administration. Must be enrolled in a Professional Accounting Designation program (3rd level CGA or equivalent). University undergraduate degree in Commerce or Business is preferred.
 
Experience:
Three to five years’ progressive accounting experience including financial monitoring and analysis, financial reporting or equivalent in a Finance department, preferably in an university environment.
 
Skills:
Sound knowledge of accounting principles, solid analytical/critical thinking skills. Ability to identify issues and seek creative solutions. Ability to work accurately, efficiently and effectively both independently and as a part of a team. Proven knowledge and ability to use following software applications: (Excel must be able to demonstrate skill at the advanced level) and word processing (Word, intermediate). Knowledge of the internet and e-mail. Ability to read and interpret financial statements. Working knowledge in interpretation of terms and conditions of grants/contracts. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to manage a high volume of work, priorities and competing time demands. Strong oral and written communications skills. Strong client-service orientation. Tact and diplomacy is essential as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality. Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
