Purpose:

The WSIB Case Management Specialist is responsible for managing all cases involving occupational illness and injury claims, which includes timely reporting, development of accommodation plans and facilitation between the parties for effective and safe return to work, preparing objection letters to WSIB, analyzing cost and NEER statement, participating in appeal hearings and applying for Secondary Injury Enhancement Fund (SIEF). The Specialist liaises with stakeholders within the York University Community (employees, departments/faculties, unions), employee assistance program provider, health care providers, IME/third party providers and WSIB account manager. The WSIB Case Management Specialist should be familiar with the Workplace Health and Safety Insurance Act.
 
Knowledge:
Solid understanding of Workplace Safety & Insurance Act; WSIB policies, provincial and federal Human Rights Code related to the duty to accommodate; York Collective Agreements; disability management theory, practice and principles; return to work/ disability case management and evaluation; design and implementation of work accommodation plans.
 
Education:
University graduate in a related field such as Human Resources (supplemented with certification in disability management field), Rehabilitation Counselling, Kinesiology, Health Sciences or Social Sciences, Disability Management certification courses. Industry Designations: Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP), Certified Canadian Rehabilitation counselor (CCRC), Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRWC), Certified Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist (CVRP), Paralegal certified designation, Rehabilitation Professional (CVRP) or Registered Kinesiologist an asset.
 
Experience:
3 - 5 years experiences in WSIB case management accompanying with expertise in designing and implementing return to work programs in a multi-unionized environment preferably in a large public sector institution.
 
Skills:
Demonstrate high-level analytical skills, strong facilitation, conflict resolution and problem solving skills. Demonstrate an ability to write detailed return to work plans and to discuss and resolve concerns or issues relating to early and safe return to work processes. Demonstrate an ability to identify improvements to current processes. Must be a self-starter. Demonstrate effective communication skill and interpersonal skill. Must have the ability to multitask, be committed to strict deadlines and possess time management and organizational skills. Demonstrate ethical and professional conduct. Intermediate knowledge of Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, E-mail.
