Hours: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. This position requires flexible hours within a 7 hour work day to allow for presentations and attendance at events as a representative of the University that occur outside of the normal business day/week day. Some evenings and weekend work required.

Purpose:

PLEASE NOTE: There are 2 positions available.

The Student Recruitment Officer (SRO) plays an important role in York University's recruitment activities. In a team environment the SRO researches and develops a York presentation, then individually delivers the presentation in secondary schools across Ontario. The SRO also counsels and advises perspective students, counsellors and parents. The purpose of these activities is to develop a well informed, vibrant, highly academic group of applicants to York University.
 
Education:
University degree required.
 
Experience:
Minimum 1 year’s recent related experience (e.g., liaison, public relations, customer service, marketing, student advising/counselling etc.), including making effective presentations, preferably in an educational environment.
 
Skills:
Knowledge of the Ontario university system, admissions criteria, and university programs; previous interaction with secondary school aged students, counsellors, or teachers preferred; demonstrated skill/ability in the following areas; public speaking and/or making effective presentations; effective interpersonal and public relations skills; working independently and setting priorities; excellent written communication skills; dealing courteously and effectively with people; exercising good judgment and initiative; tact and diplomacy essential; attending accurately to detail; analyzing, interpreting and presenting detailed information clearly; working effectively under pressure of time constraints; general advising or counselling skills; excellent organizational skills; maintaining confidentiality; lifting and bending. Demonstrated commitment to the values of creating student success: Care, collaboration, accountability, respect, innovation, excellence and inclusion. Valid Class “G” driver’s license with proven good driving record (province of Ontario).
