Purpose:
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A TEMPORARY CONTRACT TO JULY 13, 2015. Reporting to the Executive Officer of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies, the Senior Manager, Faculty Governance and Secretary of Council works closely with the Dean and is responsible/accountable to the Dean and the Chair of Council of the Faculty for the management of the Office of the Council and oversight and support for Faculty Council, its standing committees, and related activities. This includes preparation of meeting materials, communication of committee decisions, drafting and updating policies and procedures, providing guidance and direction on governance and academic policies and procedures, and original report writing. The position liaises with senior members of the Faculty and University related to university governance issues.
 
Education:
Master’s Degree (or equivalent) with emphasis in public policy and/or administration/organization.
 
Experience:
3-5 years of experience within a University environment dealing with University and Faculty governance structures and legislation, including managing large and complex committees, and drafting original reports and correspondence. Prior experience with aspects of tenure and promotion process, curricular review process, adjudications, and the administration of collective agreements (YUSA and YUFA) are essential. Previous exposure to, and understanding of, the complexities and diversities of a large Faculty is strongly preferred.

Superior oral and written communication skills in drafting sensitive correspondence and complex reports; Ability to synthesize, analyze, and interpret complex information, legislation, policies, procedures and regulations; Familiarity with differing standards and assessment practices among humanities, social sciences, and professional studies disciplines; Strong research and analytical skills; Knowledge of differing academic disciplines and programs; In-depth knowledge of tenure and promotion policy and procedures, and the related application of the YUFA collective agreement; Excellent presentation and instructional skills; Demonstrated minute-taking skills; The ability to facilitate consensus in decision-making; Strong leadership and managerial skills with an ability to collaborate in a team environment; Effective interpersonal skills, and the ability to be diplomatic and tactful; Proven ability to deal with sensitive and complex situations, and to be discreet; Ability to maintain strictest confidence of information and materials; Strong organizational skills including ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines under pressure of high volume; Exercises good judgment; ability to provide clear and direct advice to staff on projects and to academic leaders on policy and practice; Excellent advising, planning and negotiating skills; Technical proficiency to handle electronic communications with a high degree of efficiency; Advanced skill in MS Word and Excel, use of database (e.g., Access); skill with on-line student records system (SIS) in particular the repository (COS); and working knowledge of the YUSA Collective agreement.
