Purpose:
Reporting to the Senior Executive Officer, VPRI, with supervision of daily activities provided by the Project Director (Principal Investigator) of the Adapting Canadian Work and Workplaces Project, the Grant Manager is responsible for management of all activities of the ACW Partnership, a $2.5 million research project funded by the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada. The Grant Manager oversees all aspects of the project’s operational activities and management of the project’s human and financial resources ensuring compliance with York policies and the project fund agreement. S/he works closely with the project team at York University and partner organizations consisting of universities, non-governmental organizations, public and private sector enterprises, labour unions and community groups in Canada and internationally.

PLEASE NOTE: This position is a limited term contract to 2021.

 
Education:
University degree in a relevant discipline required. Masters or PhD studies in a relevant discipline an asset.
 
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years related progressive experience in a research grant or programme role. Demonstrated expertise of more than 3 years in the management of major research projects (at least $1M or more). Experience managing staff. Demonstrated experience in communicating in written and oral French in professional situations, as well as in English. Experience working in post-secondary environments strongly preferred. Experience working with international clients/partners would be an asset.
 
Skills:
Excellent management and administration skills and a demonstrated capacity to manage large project staff (over $1 mill.), budgets and maintain accountability. Ability to interact at an appropriate level with senior stakeholders and senior external representatives from government, industry, NGOs and community organizations, based in Canada and in other countries. Experience managing projects. Strong planning, coordination and organizational skills. Superior communication skills and effective presentation skills. Excellent writing skills and ability to prepare grant applications, research and other reports, responses to funders, financial reports, for various audiences. Excellent written and spoken communication skills in French and English. Knowledge of University policies and procedures, and governance structures, as well as research project processes. Initiative and high level of self-directedness. Strong problem-solving skills. Tact and diplomacy in interactions with internal and external contacts; teambuilding skills. Advanced level in excel and proficiency with MSOffice (Word, PowerPoint) and email software programs.
