Position Start Date: October 26, 2015   Position End Date: October 25, 2016
 
Purpose:
Working under the direction of the Director, Strategic Communications, this position researches, writes and prepares content to support social media, print and digital media communication for the Division of Students by promoting activities and events for all students, with an emphasis on marketing York University to prospective applicants by supporting student recruitment activities.
 
Education:
University degree or equivalent required in Communications, Marketing, English or a related field with an emphasis on written communication.
 
Experience:
3 years' recent related experience researching, creating and editing content for professional print and digital publications, including websites.
 
Skills:
Demonstrated skills/abilities in the following areas: Excellent research, writing, proofreading, editing and grammatical skills. Experience producing content across a range of media, including print and digital formats. Excellent written and oral communication skills to elicit accurate information, conduct interviews with students, professors and the larger community. Analytical skills for researching, analyzing, interpreting and presenting information. Exercising good judgement, initiative and creative problem solving skills. Excellent organizational skills including the ability to work independently, meet deadlines, co-ordinate a number of projects/programs simultaneously in response to changing/conflicting priorities. Attending accurately to detail and working effectively under pressure of high volume. Working effectively in a team environment. Effective interpersonal and public relations skills; tact and diplomacy in dealing with a wide variety of contacts. Maintaining confidentiality. Professional use of social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, blogging software, Google+. Flickr, Vimeo, Tumblr preferred. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office suite applications (Word, Excel, Power Point), e-mail and the Internet; Photoshop, InDesign, QuarkXpress and Adobe Acrobat an asset. Lifting and bending.
