Purpose:
Reporting to the Director, the Research Awards and Nomination Specialist is responsible for providing advice and support services to Faculty members seeking research chairs and nominations for research awards. Works with York University researchers and collaborates with other York University research support service providers, including awards and nominations and other research support services in the Faculties to ensure that researchers and Faculties have timely access to information. Assists in the completion of high quality and highly competitive nomination files; supports institutional reporting; and works with faculty and research support staff across the institution to build capacity to be successful in supporting faculty members in securing research chairs, awards and prizes.
 
Education:
Completion of university undergraduate degree. Completion of a graduate degree would be an asset.
 
Experience:
Minimum 4-7 years recent relevant experience in an academic research environment.
 
Skills:
Knowledge of University research, especially awards and nomination files. Excellent writing skills; exact attention to detail for writing to ensure complete nomination files are developed. Understanding of risk assessment and mitigation. Strong verbal skills to communicate clearly intent of agreements orally to internal (e.g. faculty ROs) and external partners. Well-developed interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and teams, ability to work independently as well as in a team environment in a high-volume department. Excellent judgment, problem-solving and organizational skills; superior analytical skills including an understanding of data analysis and metrics and key performance indicators; tact, sensitivity and diplomacy in dealing with varied clientele especially faculty and senior university administrators. Attention to detail and comfort with ambiguity and competing priorities; flexibility to meet emerging deadlines and changing priorities. Demonstrated computer skills in: Intermediate levels in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint
