Purpose:
Under the direction of the Executive Director, Strategy and Administration, the Operations Manager is accountable for the effective management of staff and provision of support services across a defined group of Departments/Schools/Colleges in the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies. Services include support for financial, human resources, facilities and health and safety activities including provision of advice, assistance and reporting regarding recruitment, job evaluation, and employee relations matters for YUSA and YUSA2, budgeting, facilities, space management, training and health and safety. |

Education:
University degree required. Some post-secondary education in business, finance or human resources would be an asset. |

Experience:
4-5 years of managerial/advisory experience in a university or academic environment including managing budgets; planning, analysis, policy development, and managing staff in a unionized environment, with hands on experience providing collective agreement advice and interpretation. Knowledge of academic processes (e.g., tenure and promotion, academic hiring, salary administration) would be an asset. |

Demonstrated and thorough knowledge and superior skills in budgetary planning and control; working knowledge of human resources management practices; demonstrated supervisory skills; excellent oral and written communication with proven report writing skills; demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team; excellent interpersonal skills; proven ability to exercise initiative, good judgment and problem solving skills; strong analytical and numerical skills; excellent organizational skills and the ability to set priorities and multi-task; demonstrated ability to promote service excellence and evaluate changes required to ensure a high functioning service environment including analysis, design and implementation of systemic organizational structural changes and subsequent change management strategies; ability to exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with confidential information and when dealing with people at all levels of the organization; demonstrated ability to work effectively under a high volume of work an continuously changing priorities; advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, computerized spreadsheets; knowledge of SIS and ARM would be an asset. Working knowledge of web technologies would be an asset. |
