Purpose:
The Assistant Manager, Research Accounting, under the direction of the Manager, Research Accounting, supervises the daily operations of Research Accounting and provides on-going guidance and support to the Research Accounting staff.

The Assistant Manager, Research Accounting reviews and approves financial reports for submission to granting agencies in accordance with guidelines for submission; conducts financial analysis and prepares account reconciliations. for Managerís review.
The Assistant Manager, Research Accounting supports/represents the Manager, Research Accounting in meetings and discussions in relation to the day-to-day operations with Financial Officers, Executive Officers, Administrative Officers, Researchers, Research Officers and the Office of Research Services.

The Assistant Manager, Research Accounting will liaise with external granting agencies to resolve any outstanding problems, seek clarification and guidance in order to effectively assist Researchers in the Administration of Research grants. Ensures all deliverables are on time and in the prescribed format, paying careful attention to the accuracy of submissions.
 
Education:
University degree and Professional Accounting Designation- CMA/CA/CGA.
 
Experience:
3 -5 years related experience including supervision of staff, preferably in a public sector finance department/division.
 
Skills:
Technical: Advanced spreadsheet skills (Excel).
Exposure to PeopleSoft Financials desirable - Exposure to database query languages and reporting packages (i.e. Crystal Reports) desirable.
Leadership: Supervisory experience is a requirement of this position, preferably in a Union environment.
Ability to set priorities and manage a high volume of work and competing demands for time. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to deal courteously and effectively with staff and faculty. Ability to exercise tact and judgment and exercise confidentiality. Excellent organizational skills. Proven financial analysis skills and solid analytical and creative problem-solving skills. Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
