| Purpose: The main purpose of this position is to provide reception, intake liaison and administrative support to the students and staff of the Learning Disabilities Services (LDS) within the Counselling and Disability Services (CDS). |

| Education: High school graduation or equivalent. |

| Experience: 2 years related experience in a front-line position in a post-secondary environment and specialized training and/or experience in office administration. |

| Skills: This individual must be familiar with the Counselling and Disability Services and all of its services with the emphasis on the Learning Disabilities Program and the Psychiatric Dis/Abilities Program. Knowledge of the various resources on campus for students and the Senate Policy regarding Academic Accommodation for Students with Disabilities and AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act). A working knowledge of SIS is an asset. Through their training and experience, this individual will have developed strong communication and customer service skills, which include the ability to listen, question and inform. As the initial and primary contact for the LDS program, the requirement for strong verbal communication skills is necessary in this role to effectively respond to students and parents inquiries in person and via phone and email. Must have an understanding of how to interact and communicate with people with various types of disabilities, including Aspergers and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and be sensitive to their needs. These communications will include effectively assessing individual situations and advising standard CDS and York University Policies and Procedures, programs and services. Accurate record keeping, scheduling and organizational skills gained through their educational or work experience are required. This individual also requires experience dealing with difficult clients on occasion in the customer service capacity and the ability to balance sound judgment with excellent problem solving.This individual must have some experience in general office procedures, including some accounting experience. Intermediate MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint skills required. |
