MSW, MA or MEd in Counselling Psychology or equivalent.
A minimum of 3 years (full-time) related counselling, teacher/educator experience, preferably in a post-secondary educational setting with students with disabilities.
Background in a variety of individual clinical counselling approaches, e.g., brief solution focused therapy, cognitive behaviour therapy and psychotherapeutic group process. Excellent skills as a group facilitator. Familiarity with disability related issues (e.g., legal, educational, financial) in a postsecondary educational environment. Ability to plan and facilitate workshops and speak to large groups of people. Knowledge of the mental health system and community resources. Good time management and organizational skills. Competent word-processing skills. Excellent verbal, written skills and interpersonal skills. Effective negotiating and problem solving skills. Ability to handle difficult situations with maturity and high degree of professionalism. Ability to work effectively with others (e.g., colleagues, faculty, staff, students) that may have different perspectives. Sensitivity to issues of diversity. Ability to balance being part of a team, accepting supervision while also working autonomously in a variety of situations. Creativity and ability to initiate new programs and services.
