The Division of Natural Science, Department of Science and Technology Studies at York University invites applications for a teaching-stream tenure-track position in Mathematical Science at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream to commence July 1, 2020. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.
The Division of Natural Science (NATS) specializes in developing and delivering high quality undergraduate general education science courses to non-science/non-math university students. The successful candidate must demonstrate dedication to a teaching-focused position and will be expected to teach undergraduate general education math courses to non-science/non-math university students and must also have the ability to teach courses within the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The successful candidate will be expected to provide leadership in enhancing teaching and learning through curricular and pedagogical innovation.
A Ph.D. in a Mathematical Science or a related discipline is required, as is a demonstrated ability to teach mathematical science to non-science/non-math majors at the university level. The successful candidate will also have experience teaching mathematics majors.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching university-level courses and have a strong commitment to pedagogy and student success and the capacity to bring theoretical and practical orientation to general education math teaching. The successful candidate will demonstrate good judgement and a reflective approach to teaching innovation. A record of pedagogical innovation in high priority areas such as experiential education, technology enhanced learning and community-based learning is preferred as is experience with curriculum development and universal design approaches to teaching and assessment. The successful candidate must have experience teaching large classes, and is preferred to have experience teaching with different delivery formats (e.g. lecture, blended, online).
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and must clearly demonstrate their potential to contribute to service in administrative and committee work.
