The Department of Humanities, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, York University invites applications for a professorial stream tenure-track appointment in Black Popular Cultures at the Assistant Professor level, to commence July 1, 2020. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.

A PhD or a PhD near completion in Humanities or a related field is required. The program seeks outstanding scholars in interdisciplinary and contemporary Black Popular Cultures. Applicants must have an ongoing program of research and specialize in one of the following areas: music and sound studies, visual and material cultures, social media studies, and comics and graphic novels. Preference will be given to candidates whose research focusses on Popular Cultures of Canada and covers multiple approaches. Candidates must demonstrate excellence or promise of excellence in teaching, scholarly research and publication, and service.

The successful candidate must be suitable for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The position will involve graduate teaching and supervision, as well as undergraduate teaching. Pedagogical innovation in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning is preferred.
