The Department of Communication Studies, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, York University, invites highly qualified candidates to apply for a one-year contractually limited appointment at the level of Sessional Assistant Professor in Communication and Media Policy to commence July 1, 2021.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in Communication and Media Policy. They will have a PhD (or near completion by the start date) in Communication Studies or a cognate field and demonstrable excellence, or promise of excellence, in teaching and scholarly research. The candidate must be able to teach undergraduate courses in a variety of policy-related fields, especially but not limited to one or more of: media and creative/cultural industries; sport media; digital media/ICTs; labour. The appointment will carry a teaching load of three full courses or the equivalent.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence or promise of research excellence of a recognized international calibre as demonstrated in: the research statement; a record of publications (or forthcoming publications) with significant journals in the field; presentations at major conferences; awards and accolades; and strong recommendations from referees of high standing.

Evidence of excellence or promise of excellence in teaching will be provided through: the teaching statement (including an outline of pedagogical innovations such as experiential education, opportunities and engagement with students outside the classroom, or the use of technology to enhance learning); teaching accomplishments; teaching experience; sample syllabi; and strong letters of reference.
