The Department of Social Science, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies at York University invites highly qualified applicants for a professorial stream tenure-track appointment in the Criminology Program in Critical Anti-Racist Methodologies at the Assistant Professor level, to commence July 1, 2023.

Candidate Qualifications:
• Degree: PhD in Criminology or a related interdisciplinary program is required in hand by July 1, 2023.
Research/Scholarly Expertise:
We seek applications from scholars engaged in research in and with Black and/or racialized communities who will further develop this diversity through innovative, theoretically, methodologically and/or experientially informed approaches. The substantive area of research is open, but we are interested in scholars undertaking research using one or more of the following approaches:
• Critical interdisciplinary research that engages questions of the decolonization of criminological knowledge;
• Research using critical race methodologies;
• Engaged in research involving Black and/or racialized communities in both the creation and dissemination of criminological knowledge;
• Critical quantitative (including digital), mixed methods and/or qualitative methodological approaches to community/action research with Black and/or racialized communities.
Candidates will demonstrate research excellence or promise thereof, as evident in: the cover letter; a record of publications (or forthcoming publications); conference presentations; engaged scholarship and knowledge mobilization initiatives; community advocacy and/or community research outcomes; awards and accolades; and strong letters of reference.
Teaching:
• The appointment will carry a teaching load of 2.5 courses or the equivalent and the successful candidate will be expected to teach interdisciplinary courses in their area of specialization as well as core courses in the Criminology Program, and to contribute to curricular development towards enhancing the program’s offerings.
• Ability to teach a large undergraduate Research Methods course that surveys diverse quantitative and qualitative research strategies in Criminology will be considered an asset;
• Experience with teaching large lecture-style classes will be considered an asset;
• Strength in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning will be considered an asset.
Candidates will demonstrate teaching excellence or promise thereof, as evident in: the teaching dossier, including institutional evaluations where available; teaching accomplishments and pedagogical innovations; and strong letters of reference.
Additional:
• The successful candidate is expected to provide evidence of service contributions or potential to contribute to collegial service.
• The successful candidate will be suitable for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies
