The School of Administrative Studies, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, York University invites highly qualified candidates to apply for a professorial stream tenure-track appointment in Entrepreneurship & Innovation (Markham Campus) at the Assistant level, to commence July 1, 2023. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.

The successful applicant will be based at York University’s new Markham Campus when operational (expected in Fall 2024) and become a member of the first cohort of resident faculty members. Between July 1, 2023, and the opening of the new campus, the appointee will assume a combination of teaching responsibilities at York’s Keele campus and contribute to the development of academic and research programming planned for the new Markham Campus.

Building on York University’s academic presence in the City of Markham, the new campus will help fulfil future labour market and civic leadership needs by providing transferable 21st century skills that are at the core of future economic competitiveness and community development in Markham, York Region, and across Ontario. Collaboration with York University’s existing research strengths in the core areas of the new campus, and dynamic engagement with the area’s businesses and industries, will create an innovative, cross-disciplinary research culture for solving complex problems that transcend traditional disciplines.

A PhD [or a PhD by July 1, 2023] in management with a specialization in entrepreneurship or innovation is required, with a demonstrated record of excellence or promise of excellence in research and in teaching. Applicants should have a clearly articulated program of research and specialize in one or more of the following areas: entrepreneurial cognition, entrepreneurial networks, entrepreneurship education, new venture creation, social entrepreneurship, organizational innovation, business model innovation, and/or innovation processes.

The successful candidate will be expected to engage in outstanding, innovative, and, as appropriate, externally funded research at the highest level.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence or promise of research excellence of a recognized international calibre as demonstrated in one or more of: the research statement; a record of publications (or forthcoming publications) with significant journals in the fields of entrepreneurship and/or innovation; presentations at major conferences; awards and accolades; strong recommendations from referees of high standing; and throughout the hiring process.

The position may involve graduate teaching and supervision, as well as undergraduate teaching and the successful candidate must be suitable for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Evidence of excellence or promise of excellence in teaching will be provided through one or more of: the teaching statement; teaching accomplishments and pedagogical innovations including in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning; teaching evaluations; strong letters of reference; and throughout the hiring process. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience teaching courses in entrepreneurship and/or innovation.

Although not required, preferred candidates will possess relevant practical experience with entrepreneurial endeavors and/or innovation projects. Experience may have been gained through previous roles as (e.g.) an advisor, mentor, project leader, entrepreneurship program developer. Incubator manager, financier, or start-up or spin-off entrepreneur.
