The Department of Psychology, Faculty of Health at York University invites highly qualified candidates to apply for a professorial stream tenure-track appointment in Black Youth/Young Adult Mental Health at the Assistant Professor level, to commence July 1, 2023. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.
This position is open to qualified individuals who self-identify as Black peoples of African Descent (for example Africans and African heritage people from the Caribbean, Americas, Europe). We conceive of this position broadly, open to individuals working in any area of Clinical Psychology practice with Black adults, children and/or youth, and their families. The goal is to hire a clinician-scientist with specific research focus and clinical experience working with mental health services in Black communities; this includes but is not limited to assessment and intervention for emotional, social, cognitive, behavioural, and/or adjustment difficulties. The primary graduate area affiliation of the successful candidate could be either Clinical (C) or Clinical Developmental (CD), depending on their research focus and/or client populations. The C area includes faculty who primarily conduct research and clinical work with adults, and the CD area includes faculty who primarily conduct research and clinical work with children, youth, and families on issues around development and mental health. Both areas include faculty with a focus on neuropsychology.
Applicants must hold a PhD or closely related degree (PsyD or EdD) from CPA/APA accredited clinical programs, with the degree completed by the appointment start date. The applicant should hold registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario or be eligible to apply for supervised practice. For those who are not registered, the faculty in the C or CD area would aid in the candidate’s process of attaining registration.
Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence or promise of research excellence consistent with their disciplinary training and rank as demonstrated through the following: the research statement; a record of publications (or forthcoming publications) with significant journals in the field; presentations at major conferences; awards and accolades; and strong recommendations from referees. Applicants should have a clearly articulated program of research. The successful candidate must be eligible for appointment as a full member of the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The successful candidate will also share in the administrative work of the Department, Faculty, University, and/or Faculty Association, and participate in various decision-making councils of the University.
The position will involve undergraduate teaching, the supervision of Honours students, as well as graduate teaching and supervision. Experience in teaching assessment or intervention is an asset. The successful candidate must demonstrate teaching excellence or potential for excellence in teaching as provided through the teaching statement; teaching accomplishments and pedagogical innovations including in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning; teaching evaluations; and strong letters of reference.
